on shep's actual birthday

I had plans for us to try out his new kiddie pool and go to the park so he could swing...but the weather did not cooperate and it rained pretty much the entire day.
We made the most of it, relaxing and playing inside until Daddy got home.

^^^ That happy little face is my favorite thing ^^^

^^^ Got in an extra bath just for fun since we couldn't use the pool ^^^
^^^ Had a blast pulling out all of the laundry and playing in the basket.  Now if I could just teach him to fold! ^^^

^^^ Happy happy when Daddy got home ^^^
^^^ Mommy got to pick the restaurant (Red Lobster), since she was the one doing all the work a year ago today!  We took this pic at exactly 6:31pm.  Officially a year old! ^^^
^^^ Went to Joseph Beth to pick out a birthday present.  He had the time of his life pulling all of the stuffed animals off the shelves. ^^^
^^^ But the most fun was this little train table.  He loved it! ^^^

^^^ Finished off the day with more bath time, his favorite, and this fun little light up fountain he got at his party. ^^^

A low key day to celebrate a year with my favorite little man!

One YEAR with my favorite boy!

What a great year it has been! Love watching this little boy grow up and develop his own little personality.  He may look like me, but I think he is getting a lot of his personality from his daddy!

"Clap your hands and make a sound"

^^^This is exactly what I looked like at his age^^^
 ^^^ Flirty face ^^^

^^^ Yay, Daddy is home! ^^^

^^^ Love that little tucked in lip and sweaty little head as he sleeps ^^^
 ^^^ JOY joy JOY ^^^

mother's day 2013.

Mother's Day is my favorite holiday!  Because being a mother is my favorite thing.
My love language was filled to the brim, getting to spend the whole day with both of my men.
After sleeping in I opened my gifts (perfume from Joey, a book from Shepherd, a scarf from my fam that my mom had brought up last weekend, and a necklace from myself! ;)
Then we got ready for our day and headed to brunch at First Watch.  One of my favorite restaurants that Joey doesn't like, so we never go!

Shepherd spent the whole meal reminding us why we shouldn't think going out to eat is ever a good idea.  Do other babies stay in the high chair?  Because Shep just climbs out, causing us to take turns eating while the other tries to keep him in the seat.  On the plus side, Shep got lots of practice using his flirty face.
After lunch we headed downtown to an art fair.
Wooden airplane!
There was a petting zoo with llamas and sheep and goats, but Shepherd liked the bunnies the most.

We were reminded what a pretty city we live in, that we do not take enough advantage of.  We walked around downtown and looked at the old beautiful homes.

When we got home we took Shepherd's birthday wagon from Nana out on its maiden voyage.
The creek by our house:

I loved spending the whole day with my two boys.  Thank you Joey for my perfect day!

My baby is ONE.

Today is my baby's first birthday.
I think when you become a parent, all of a sudden all of those cliche sayings become true...something you can't explain unless you are a parent.

I honestly believe Shepherd is a sweet angel on Earth.
I honestly know he will not know how much I love him until he has his own baby.
I honestly don't know where the time has gone.

Since Shepherd Nash came into our lives, I am happier than I've ever been.  But better than that, I have more joy than I ever though possible, down deep into my heart and soul.
Words cannot express how much I love this precious boy.
I enjoy each and every minute with him.
He still feels brand new to me, I remember the day he was born like it was yesterday.
The beautiful blue skies, the anticipation, the excitement.
Bringing him home, all of my hormones out of whack and crying as I rocked him to sleep.
Crying when his umbilical cord fell off because he was just growing up too fast.
I don't think it had set in yet, "oh, I get to KEEP him?  He is mine, forever?"

I pray every day for Shepherd.  As I nurse him to sleep and hold his sweet innocent self next to me, I go over the day in my head, thanking God, and asking Him for another tomorrow, to watch over my baby as he sleeps.

Shepherd Nash, you are so funny.  I pray you always have the carefree spirit you have now.  You have no worries.  You are handsome, fearless, loving, sweet, smart, brave, strong, a beautiful beautiful boy.
You are obsessed with your mommy.  You laugh the most and talk the most with Daddy.  You have a little mischeivious streak in you.  You like to play games with us, and giggle so hard when you know you're doing something you shouldn't, like finding my cell phone and crawling to hide as fast as you can.  I don't know why, but one of my favorite things is to watch you play by yourself.  You make your way through all of your toys, and your favorites are your books.  I love watching you look so serious as you turn each page on your own.  One day you will be such a good big brother.  You LOVE other babies.  Oh, and you are such a flirt!!  I might have my hands full one day!  Whenever we are out, you zero in on any girl you can find and stare her down until she notices you, which doesn't ever
take long.  You cock your head to the side and give a little smile...oh you are a flirt!
Maybe my very favorite thing, is when you give unsolicited kisses.  It warms my heart and soul!  Sometimes, for good measure, you give me two! One right after the other.  The first time you say "I love you" I'll probably combust.  I've never seen a little boy as busy as you.  I am not exaggerating when I say you never.stop.moving.  Which means, you hate cuddling.  Why, why, why?  If you ever have a rare moment of letting us squeeze you, your dad and I look at each other and say, "does this count as cuddling?"  My favorite word is hearing you say, "mama."  You say it all the time.  I was very proud that it was your first word.  Sometimes its, "mehmeh" "mamamamama" or occasionaly, "ma-maaaaa."  You love to point.  You point your finger, I say what it is, then you move on to the next thing.  You especially like pointing at the light every morning.  You have always loved sitting on the changing table by the window.  You love the outdoors.  I see a future of dirt and bugs and rocks and all sorts of little boy treasures.  You hate being tied down.  Its very hard to change your diaper!  And while you like walks, you only tolerate them for so long.  You really want to be exploring, not stuck in the stroller!

This past year has flown by (cliche saying again).  Every new stage you enter is more fun than the last. Now our home is strewn with toys and baby gear and discarded cheerios. I love it.  The greatest gift I have ever received is getting to be your mother.
Thank you Jesus for my sweet baby boy.

Happy birthday Shepherd Nash.
I love you!!

Shep's Circus: Decor

We had Shepherd's first (!!!) birthday party this past weekend.  His actual birthday is this coming Friday, but with Mother's Day and a few other things, we decided to celebrate early.
When trying to decide on a theme for the party, I first dismissed the circus idea.  My thought was, I loved that theme so much that I should wait and use it when he is a little older.  Then I remembered that my husband has a Luau themed birthday party for himself every year.  Why not do the same thing for Shep?  I think its kind of cool to have your own theme!  At least until he is old enough to choose his party theme on his own, I thought it would be fun to hold "Shep's Circus" every year.  Plus, I can reuse decorations and as the kids get older, it will be so fun to come up with games!

Yard sign from Oriental Trade Company.  Turned into a plant sign because of the rain!
Joey put this sign together all on his own, he even came up with the poem and #hashtag idea.
"We would greatly appreciate it
And hope it doesn't cause a fuss
If you would take lots of pictures
Of Shepherd's circus"

I made the "1" and attached it to a wreath we already had.  I could do a tutorial if anyone is interested, but it was really easy!
A pinterest idea!  I was obsessed with this precious little banner with a picture of Shep each month.

Growing up, I got a Precious Moments circus animal for each birthday.  Mom brought it up to display at the party and I thought it would be sweet to put out every year.  Probably the only use for something like this.  Those are also a few pictures of me around a year old, as Shep is turning more and more into my mini-me every day.
Our photo booth!  I didn't feel the need to set up a camera, since everyone would just use their phone anyway.  I got cheap dollar store plastic tablecloths to use as the backdrop.  I also got a ton of funny dollar store props to use.  Below is my cute nephew, I don't know how I convinced him to pose for a picture!

^^This would have been more fun if it wasn't raining and we could have put it outside.  My mom works at a school and they had some sort of carnival recently.  Mom borrowed this little clown bean bag toss for the party.
Another Oriental Trading Company purchase.  Seriously check out that site, everything is very inexpensive!  I think this cost less than $5!  Everyone had fun posing for pictures with the face in hole.
I wanted to spruce up Shepherd's high chair a bit and my sis-in-law had the idea to just pin fabric over the seat.  I used clothespins for the top and bottom fabric.  Super easy, I got the fabric at Hobby Lobby.
I wanted to display Shepherd's chair pictures I take every month, since a few people at the party aren't on facebook to see them.  My dad used an extra tablecloth to cover up the door for a little backdrop.
I never would have thought of this, but got the idea off pinterest (where else) to decorate with construction paper garlands.  I put my mom and sister to work making those and we just draped them all over the house. (No problem delegating here, haha!)
Um, do you see that vintage style popcorn machine back there?  Why did I not get a close up shot?  One of our friends had it and offered to bring it over and set it up for the party.  (Oh he also brought homemade pimento cheese that was delicous!)  Love!!  The whole house smelled like fresh popcorn, just like at the circus!  I purchased the popcorn bags from Amazon for about $4.
Check out the smash cake and cupcakes above.  Yet another friend offered to make these for the party. I just have the best (talented!) friends.  The little smash cake was so cute for Shepherd and those cupcakes!  She had the idea to make them look like snowcones! Perfect!  Even the liners for the cupcakes were snowcone cups.
I didn't go all out with food because the party was at 2:00.  Just the popcorn and cupcakes I mentioned, ham sandwiches, pimento cheese sandwiches, potato chips and chips and salsa.
We found vintage style drink stickers also from Oriental Trading Company that we put on beer and Ale-8s.  If you can tell, stuck on each straw was a clown face!  (Hobby Lobby!)

Well, thats all of our circus decor, next I'll share some party pictures!
